In Being John Malkovich, forlorn puppeteer Craig Schwartz (John Cusack) takes a job as a file clerk on the seventh-and-a-half floor of a Manhattan office building, here he discovers a metaphysical portal into the brain of actor John Malkovich, here you can spend 15 minutes as this actor!

Along with his devious co-worker Maxine Lund (Catherine Keener), they devise a scheme to charge people $200 for the experience, which proves very popular until one of the clients is John Malkovich himself!

I must say, Being John Malkovich is a fantastic movie, you certainly can't predict what will happen next, I thoroughly recommend this to everyone!

Legends Of British Comedy The Very Best Of Spike Milligan is a documentary about the comic genius of Spike Milligan, from his early days of the Goon show, to the sometimes brilliant, sometimes odd Q series!

Sadly a lot of TV material by Spike is now permanently erased, so we can only remember him, but this documentary helps you remember the genius at work! Recommended!

Here is his fantastic Daleks sketch...

Guy X is a very good movie, not silly comedy like american Pie, but mature and intelligent! I really enjoyed this. Recommended!

Defence of the Realm is set in the politically charged atmosphere of Thatchers Britain, newspaper reporters are hungry for a story that will make them famous. A top member of Parliament, Dennis Markham (Ian Bannen), is the focus of the latest political scandal, after being photographed with a prostitute who is known to have Russian contacts!

Nick goes into the scandal full-bore, despite warnings from his mentor, Vernon Bayliss (Denholm Elliott), and receives a tip that makes his story a front-page item. But as he discovers, there is much more to it than he imagined.

I found Defence of the Realm a very entertaining movie, thoroughly recommended!

21 Grams DVD Report

Print: Good - Sound: Good - Label: Icon - Year: 2003 - Cover: Good - Format: 1.85:1 - Length: 1h59m/1h54m - Before: No - Again: No - Price: £1 - Rating: 6/10.

21 Grams uses a non-linear way to piece together the lives of three very different people. Paul Rivers (Sean Penn) is a math teacher needing a heart transplant and has a troubled marriage to Mary Rivers (Charlotte Gainsbourg). Christine Peck (Naomi Watts), is a former drug addict living with her husband, Michael Peck (Danny Huston), and her 2 daughters. Jack Jordan (Benicio del Toro) is a born-again Christian with his wife Marianne Jordan (Melissa Leo), who stood by him since his days as a criminal.

Following a tragic accident, the three characters are thrown into each-others lives, one wanting the other dead, one regretting everything and one wanting to be with another!

21 Grams is initially hard to follow, but you soon get the idea and it becomes very intriguing so you have to watch! Its more a drama then anything, but very good! Recommended!

Twin Town DVD Report

Terry Walsh (Dougray Scott) and Greyo (Dorien Thomas) are two local policemen who employ their own dubious peacekeeping methods as events spiral out of control!

Twin Town was recommended to me by a friend, and it is very good! Watch it!

Devils Prey DVD Report

Print: Good - Sound: Good - Label: Mosaic - Year: 2001 - Cover: OK - Format: 4:3 - Length: 1h26m/1h23m - Before: No - Again: No - Price: 85p - Rating: 5.5/10.

In Devils Prey, David (Charlie O'Connell), Treymore (Corey Page), Samantha (Jennifer Lyons), Susan (Ashley Jones) and Joe (Rashaan Nall) are leaving a bar and find themselves invited to a rave. Though David is sceptical about it, the friends attend the backwoods rave called Straight to Hell.

Little do the know they are going to be sacrificed by a cult called The Shadows, lead by Minister Seth (Patrick Bergen), but while running away they meet the injured Fawn (Elena Lyons). Will they save Fawn and all get back to civilisation?

Hmm, Devils Prey features the most laughable cult ever, anyone could beat them, whats more the rave is little more then a disco in a barn! This movie has some OK parts, but overall its let down by too much stupidity!

Traffic DVD Report

Print: Good - Sound: Good - Label: Entertainment in Video- Year: 2000 - Cover: OK - Format: 16:9 - Length: 2h20m/2h16m - Before: No - Again: No - Price: £1 - Rating: 6.5/10.

Traffic is made from 3 story-lines, woven together by the common theme of the war on drugs. It shows drug dealers, buyers, and those who work to stop the trade in drugs.

It all starts off in Mexico, then moves to San Diego, we meet police who are selling drugs, and dealers who work for the police and Robert Wakefield (Michael Douglas), the new American drug czar whose daughter is a Heroin user. Helena Ayala (Catherine Zeta-Jones), is a society matron who finds her husbands fortune comes from selling drugs, and decides the only way to preserve her lifestyle is to join him.

Traffic is a pretty good movie, a tiny bit slow in places but otherwise good!

House Of The Dead II Dead Aim Report

AKA: House Of The Dead 2 - Print: Good - Sound: Good - Label: Sony - Year: 2005 - Cover: Good - Format: 1.85:1 - Length: 1h32m/1h28m - Before: No - Again: No - Price: £1 - Rating: 6.5/10.

In House Of The Dead II Dead Aim, a growing zombie infection overtakes a university campus. Hoping to stop the spread of the infection and end the zombie plague, a secret government agency is sent in to find the original zombie, from who the infection started, to create an antidote.

Operatives Alexandra Nightingale Morgan (Emmanuelle Vaugier) and Jake Ellis (Ed Quinn) find the entire university campus has been overrun, immersed in a zombie battle, Nightengale and Ellis discover some of their fellow agents have their own plans for the zombie DNA!

House Of The Dead II Dead Aim is far better then its prequel, but is still lacking in places, the zombies aren't as scary as Romeros, and there is some plot silliness too :) Not too bad though.

Here is the trailer...

Born On The Fourth Of July DVD Report

Print: Good - Sound: Good - Label: Universal - Year: 1999 - Cover: Good - Format: 2.35:1 - Length: 2h18m/2h13m - Before: Yes on TV - Again: No - Price: £1 - Rating: 6.5/10.

In Born On The Fourth Of July, is based on a true story, it follows Ron Kovic (Tom Cruise) from his days as a zealous teen who eagerly volunteered for the Vietnam War, to help defeat the Communist threat, to his life as an embittered veteran paralysed from the chest down. Deeply in love with his country, Kovic returned to an environment vastly different from the one he left, and struggled before emerging as a brave new voice for the disenchanted.

Born On The Fourth Of July is a good movie and anyone thinking of joining the armed forces needs to watch it, a little slow occasionally though! Recommended!

See No Evil DVD Report

Print: Good - Sound: Good - Label: Lionsgate - Year: 2006 - Cover: Good - Format: 16:9 - Length: 1h21m/1h16m - Before: No - Again: No - Price: £1 - Rating: 6/10.

In See No Evil, reclusive psychopath Jacob Goodnight (Glenn Kane Jacobs) is a 7 feet tall, 400 pound maniac, with a hole in his skull and razor-sharp fingernails that pluck out his victims eyes. He is holed up in the long-abandoned and rotting Blackwell Hotel, alone with his nightmares, until 8 petty criminals show up to renovate the hotel, for community service, along with Frank Williams (Steven Vidler), the cop who put the bullet hole in Jacobs head 4 years ago.

When one of their own is kidnapped by the killer and with her fate uncertain, the remaining lawbreakers must fight this indestructible force of nature who has a violent score to settle, but does this run deeper than it appears? Why is Goodnight there?

See No Evil
is basically a slasher movie, but its not too bad, I've certainly seen a lot worse. I did work out who was behind it all about 30 minutes into the film though. Still not too bad!

Here is the trailer...

Windtalkers DVD Report

Print: Good - Sound: Good - Label: MGM - Year: 2002 - Cover: Good - Format: 16:9- Length: 2h09m/2h05m - Before: No - Again: Yes - Price: 50p - Rating: 7/10.

Windtalkers is set in 1942, when several hundred Navajo Americans were recruited as Marines, and trained to use their language as a secret code. Marine Joe Enders (Nicolas Cage) is assigned to protect Ben Yahzee (Adam Beach), a Navajo code talker. Enders orders are to protect the code above the talker, so Yahzee must be protected, but if he is to falls into enemy hands, Enders must kill the man who is to become his friend.

Against the backdrop of the horrific Battle of Saipan, when capture is imminent, Enders is forced to make a decision, if he can't protect his fellow Marine, can he bring himself to kill Yahzee to protect the code?

I'm not a fan of war films, even though Apocalypse Now is one of my all-time favourite moves, so I was hesitant towards buying Windtalkers, but the price tag influenced me :) And all I can say is what a great story, Cage is great as always, Recommended!

The Hills Have Eyes Part 2 DVD Report

Print: Good - Sound: Good - Label: Anchor Bay - Year: 1985 - Cover: OK - Format: 16:9 - Length: 1h26m/1h24m - Before: No - Again: No - Price: £1 - Rating: 5.5/10.

In The Hills Have Eyes Part 2, a group of bikers, including some of the survivors from the original film, embark on a journey to test a new kind of bike fuel in the desert, and park close to the location of the incidents from the first movie.

Some of the group are attacked by survivors from the first move, and its all very predictable from here!

The Hills Have Eyes Part 2 features something I really didn't like, 5+ minutes of clips, showing events from the first movie, that are pretty pointless - yawn! Overall the last 15 minutes weren't so bad, the rest was pretty dull

Here is the trailer...

The Virgin Suicides DVD Report

Print: Good - Sound: Good - Label: Pathe - Year: 1999 - Cover: Good - Format: 1.66:1 - Length: 1h33m/1h28m - Before: No - Again: No - Price: £1 - Rating: 5.5/10.

The Virgin Suicides is set in 1970s America, the Lisbons seem like an ordinary family; Ronald (James Woods) who teaches math at the local high school, Sara (Kathleen Turner) who has strong religious views, and 5 teenage daughters, ranging from 13 to 17; Cecilia (Hannah R Hall), Lux (Kirsten Dunst), Mary (AJ Cook), Cecilia (Hanna R Hall), Therese (Leslie Hayman) and Bonnie (Chelse Swain).

The Lisbon family are shattered when Cecilia falls into deep depression and attempts suicide, then shattered further when she does it again and succeeds. But after attending a school dance, Lux is seduced then abandoned. The Lisbons pull their daughters out of school, as an emotionally frayed Mother keeps close watch over them.

The Virgin Suicides is an odd movie, probably more a chic-flic than something I should watch, but I bought it because I have the soundtrack album by Air, which I find amazing! This movie tells you the outcome of the film right at the beginning, then shows you how they got there, very odd! Then again the soundtrack album also tells you the plot of the movie, so I suggest you play this and skip The Virgin Suicides totally! Its OK I suppose, but as I said, odd!

Here is the trailer...

Final Fantasy The Spirits Within DVD Report

Print: Good - Sound: Good - Label: Columbia Tristar - Year: 2001 - Cover: Good - Format: 1.85:1 - Length: 1h46m/1h35m - Before: Yes on VCD - Again: No - Price: £1 - Rating: 5.5/10.

Final Fantasy The Spirits Within is a photo realistic computer animated movie, based on the computer game series of the same name, which I despised! Set in the year 2065, Earth has been taken over by a race of alien phantoms and transformed into a barren wasteland, sprinkled with dome-enclosed barrier cities, the last bastions of human civilization. Dr Aki Ross (voiced by Ming-Na) has teamed up with Captain Gray Edwards (Alec Baldwin) to search for the 7th and 8th spirits, powerful entities dwelling in an unknown lifeform somewhere on the planet.

They hold the key to perfecting a system of energy waves that will neutralize the phantoms, but the reckless General Hein (James Woods), who is determined to put a stop to the alien invasion by firing a satellite cannon directly into a nest of phantoms located deep within the Earth, even though this could mean obliterating the planet and all life upon it!

Final Fantasy The Spirits Within is without doubt a well made movie, I found it a bit slow though, and I know Final Fantasy purists have different issues with it!

Rat DVD Report

Print: Good - Sound: Good - Label: Universal - Year: 2000 - Cover: Good - Format: 16:9 - Length: 1h29m/1h24m - Before: No - Again: No - Price: £1 - Rating: 6/10.

In Rat, Hubert Flynn (Pete Postlethwaite), is a Dublin bread delivery man who loves a pint of Guinness, a bet on the horses and his wife Conchita - in that order. So when he comes home late from the pub one evening and changes into a rat, Conchita is slow to forgive.

Conchita (Imelda Staunton), at first resists her families plans for Hubert, but when a ghost-writer knocks on the door and proposes to put their story in a book and then a film of the book, and a book of the film, with riches beyond her dreams, she is tempted, setting the stage for a series of bizarre and comical adventures for Hubert the rat and his family.

Rat sounds like a Disney movie, its not, it is pretty funny and I do find Postlethwaite normally very good, but I found Rat somewhat lacking, its OK if your at a loose end though.

Sorry, no trailer...

Jim Davidson The Devil Rides Out Live DVD Report

Print: Good - Sound: Good - Label: Universal - Year: 2007 - Cover: Good - Format: 1.78:1 - Length: 1h25m/1h25m - Before: No - Again: Yes - Price: £1 - Rating: 6.5/10.

In Jim Davidson The Devil Rides Out Live, we find Jim playing The Edinburgh Festival, the worlds most famous comedy festival.

Jim Davidson presents his trademark brand of adult humour, there are sizzling and saucy tales, sure to bring the house down! Jim is one of Britains greatest older comedians, doing what he does better than anyone else, and no room for political correctness!

Jim Davidson The Devil Rides Out Live is pretty funny, even though I don't agree with a lot of the politics Jim supports, which bleed over into his routines! Recommended.

Here is a clip...

Evil Aliens DVD Report

Print: Good - Sound: Good - Label: Universal- Year: 2005 - Cover: OK - Format: 1.78:1 - Length: 1h29m/1h27m - Before: No - Again: Yes - Price: £1 - Rating: 7/10.

In Evil Aliens, Scalleum, is a remote farming island off the north coast of Wales, only accessible at low tide via a causeway know as the Devils Spine which is also home to an ancient stone circle known as the Devils Teeth! Weird Worlde, a cable TV program is having serious problems with its ratings, so presenter Michelle Fox (Emily Booth) puts together a team to investigate the Scalleum Incident!

Cat Williams (Jennifer Evans) claims to not only to have been abducted by aliens, but also impregnated by them, the cynical TV crew accompanied by the actors to re-stage a dramatic construction, along with UFO expert Gavin Gorman (Jamie Honeybourne) head for the island, and experience the weirdness of this remote community - which incliude a farm powered by manure and some very twisted Welsh farmers who hate the English. Of course the TV crew doesn't believe a word of Cats story, but Michelle will do anything to save her job, even if she has to fake the evidence, but will she?

Evil Aliens was one of those DVDs I had to question my sanity after buying it, it looked terrible, but its a great movie! It is gory, but is also very funny with a good story too!

Here is the trailer...

Transporter 2 DVD Report

Print: Good - Sound: Good - Label: 20th Century Fox - Year: 2005 - Cover: Good - Format: 16:9 - Length: 1h24m/1h19m - Before: No - Again: Yes - Price: 50p - Rating: 7.5/10.

In Transporter 2, Frank Martin (Jason Statham), a professional driver and mercenary is now living in Miami, where he is filling in for a friend as the chauffeur, for a government narcotics control policy-maker and his family.

When the young boy of the family is kidnapped and Frank is implicated, its time to hit the road and save his professional reputation, by outwitting the pursuing cops and exposing the kidnappers, using any and all methods at his disposal!

Transporter 2 is better than The Transporter, which is also a pretty good movie, so a superior sequel! I'm really looking forward to seeing part 3!
