SWAT is that rare action movie that manages to take an extremely limiting script and injecting it with both realism and a pure joy of cinema. Its always nice to find a blockbuster action movie that doesn't pander to the lowest common denominator! Colin Farrell stars as Jim Street, a young and talented SWAT officer who's doing his best to get back into the good graces of the LAPD. Soon he's persuaded by Lt. Hondo (Samuel L Jackson) to join his team of rough cops, where Jim proves to be a valuable member of the squad.
Much of the realistic action of SWAT comes by way of exciting and realistic training sequences. The SWAT team learns how to shoot, go through tough training and learn the best ways to deal with the bad guys. This section is so interesting in fact, that we see the team do such things for about half of the movie. And besides a couple of short (and entertaining) missions that they must take part in, we don't get to the main gist of the plot for quite a while. It's far from a complaint, because it works to keep of the breakneck pace. Say this for SWAT, it doesn't give you the chance get up and go to the bathroom. Its not unlike a TV series pilot, even though its a movie of a TV series!
I enjoyed the movie, I'd say watch it!
