Shogun Assassin is an adaptation of the Japanese films Lone Wolf and Cub 1 and 2 (12 minutes from part 1, the rest from part 2), it follows the lone samurai and his son on a trail of revenge. After faithfully serving his shogun, Lone Wolf (Tomisaburo Wakayama) is betrayed when the shogun has his wife killed.

Boiling with the blood of vengeance, the samurai and his young son have to fend for themselves as they seek out the shogun and come face to face with the Masters of Death.

Shogun Assassin was always the film I thought of as a video nasty, so perhaps my expectations where set too high. This is a very bloody movie, but no gore or adult themes. A lot of the violence is almost cartoonish, and some of it made me laugh, I'm sure the goodies did a similar decapitation to the ones in this movie! Overall, its OK, but no masterpiece :)

Here is the trailer...
