Southland Tales is set in Los Angeles during the election season of 2008, over 3 days - the world is facing social, economic and environmental collapse.
It covers some linked events; the reappearance of a vanished movie star Boxer Santaros (Dwayne The Rock Johnson), with a lost memory, the bizarre doubling of a Officer Roland Taverner (Seann William Scott), who holds the key to a vast conspiracy, a porn star with her own reality TV project, Krysta Now (Sarah Michelle Gellar), plus guest appearances from others including Christopher Lambert as an arms dealer in an ice cream van!
And if that gives the idea its a bit complex, it is, but you will follow it! Southland Tales explores some original ideas too, without doubt, this is the best movie I have seen this year, if not this decade! Ignore the reviewers, ignore the fact Cannes hated it, this is one fantastic movie! It reminded me of the TV series Twin Peaks BTW :) Have a nice Apocalypse!
Here is the trailer, but it doesn't do it justice!
I collect DVDs, we have over 3,000 titles in the house now! I buy most from Car Boot Sales,Poundshops, markets, sales, and greatly reduced from the internet, but I only buy what I want to watch! I do a short report when I watch them, I got rid of almost 800 titles at Christmas 2010 (low score, duplicates, ones I'd never watch etc.) I continue to wade through them, and appear to be buying slightly less, but still watching like mad :)
