I've seen some bad movies in my time, and this is a bad movie, but I like it! I was 15 years old, I took the train to Lincoln (now my home town) queued at the ABC Cinema (now demolished and re-developed) and got in to watch The Stud, Certificate X (remember that, before 18s :) ). Today I watched it on DVD!
Based on the best selling novel by Jackie Collins, The Stud focuses on Tony Blake (Oliver Tobias), a handsome, ambitious and intrepid young man who yearns to own his own discotheque in swinging London. His pursuit leads him to the beautiful Fontaine Khaled (Joan Collins), and his management of both her disco, and her sexual requirements. The late radio DJ David Jacobs daughter Emma Jacobs pops up as a bored teenage temptress.
Set against a backdrop of 1970s London around Christmas and plenty of illicit sex, the relationship plays out as a high stakes gamble. The soundtrack is bouncing and well worth a listen on its own, if your into seventies disco. There are several cameos and some 1970s TV starts you may note too :) I enjoyed it, but probably for nostalgia reasons :)
Here is the trailer...
