What I didn't realise when I bought this (but for just £1), that Black Book is a Dutch movie, this isn't dubbed, its subtitled, but when I started watching I got into it and before I knew it, 2h 15m had gone and - Wow! What a great movie!
After narrowly escaping death, young Rachel Rosenthal (Carice Van Houten) becomes part of the Jewish resistance, assuming the name Ellis de Vries. Her superiors order her to seduce a Gestapo officer named Ludwig. Ellis is successful in her mission but soon finds herself falling in love with her mortal enemy. This bloody, full-bodied thriller, with its tangle of double crosses, is a first-rate adventure!
My gripe about subtitled movies is this - I miss so much that is going on while I'm reading the subtitles, Black Book would have been an awesome movie in English, but it was pretty good in Dutch still!
