Mark of the Devil follows Count Christian von Meruh (Udo Kier), a witch hunting apprentice to Lord Cumberland (Herbert Lom). Christian strongly believes in his mentor and in the ways of the church, but loses faith in them after seeing Cumberland kill a man for calling him impotent.
Christian begins to see that the witch trials are nothing but a church scam to brutalise women and rob citizens of their possessions. The cover boasts Positively the most horrifying movie ever made, which was probably true for 1970, but really falls down today!
I found Mark of the Devil pretty average, its probably good for 1970, but thats all, Lom is good of course, but he always is! OK to watch if you are at a loose end!
I collect DVDs, we have over 3,000 titles in the house now! I buy most from Car Boot Sales,Poundshops, markets, sales, and greatly reduced from the internet, but I only buy what I want to watch! I do a short report when I watch them, I got rid of almost 800 titles at Christmas 2010 (low score, duplicates, ones I'd never watch etc.) I continue to wade through them, and appear to be buying slightly less, but still watching like mad :)
