In American Gangster, when Frank Lucas (Denzel Washington) boss suddenly dies, Frank builds an empire through ingenuity and a strong business ethic, he rules the inner-city drug trade, flooding the streets with a purer product at a cheaper price. He outplays all of the leading crime syndicates, and becomes part of the circle of legitimate civic superstars.
Richie Roberts (Russell Crowe) is an honest cop, close enough to the street to feel a shift of control in the drug underworld, he believes someone is climbing the rungs, and suspects that a black power player now dominates the scene.
Both Lucas and Roberts share a rigorous ethical code that sets them apart from their own colleagues, making them both lone figures on opposite sides. The destinies of these two men become intertwined, as they approach a confrontation where only one of them can come out on top.
American Gangster is based on a true story, and I really enjoyed it. Another success!
I collect DVDs, we have over 3,000 titles in the house now! I buy most from Car Boot Sales,Poundshops, markets, sales, and greatly reduced from the internet, but I only buy what I want to watch! I do a short report when I watch them, I got rid of almost 800 titles at Christmas 2010 (low score, duplicates, ones I'd never watch etc.) I continue to wade through them, and appear to be buying slightly less, but still watching like mad :)
