In The Contender, when the US Vice President unexpectedly dies, everyone is waiting for President Jackson Evans (Jeff Bridges) to choose his successor. Senator Jack Hathaway (William L Petersen), a respected career politician with new popularity after attempting to save a drowning woman, is expected to be the Presidents choice.
But instead he chooses Senator Laine Hanson (Joan Allen), veteran power broker Shelly Runyon (Gary Oldman) is opposed to this, partially because the Democratic senator was once a Republican, he vows to do everything in his power to prevent her from being confirmed! Runyon and his staff start digging for dirt on Hanson, and soon make a surprising discovery!
The Contender is another fantastic movie, heavy on US politics, but really enjoyable!
I collect DVDs, we have over 3,000 titles in the house now! I buy most from Car Boot Sales,Poundshops, markets, sales, and greatly reduced from the internet, but I only buy what I want to watch! I do a short report when I watch them, I got rid of almost 800 titles at Christmas 2010 (low score, duplicates, ones I'd never watch etc.) I continue to wade through them, and appear to be buying slightly less, but still watching like mad :)
