While the Volume one was very much a samurai film that wore its Asian influences on its sleeve, Volume 2 is much more of a spaghetti western! As such, the set pieces are both shorter and much less spectacular than those of the first film, but Volume 2 more than makes up for this in terms of both dialogue and characterisation.
We meet and see the demise of more assassins, both the drunken loser that is Budd and the strangely honorable poisoner, Elle. There is also much entertainment to be had from The Brides tutelage under kung-fu master Pai Mei. When she is buried in the coffin, its very claustrophobic, and although you know she has to get out of it, you can't imagine how!
The final scenes in which The Bride finally meets Bill are both moving and powerful.
As with Volume 1, Kill Bill Volume 2 is a great film that manages to hold your attention even though the plot is completely lacking in twists, but Kill Bill would be a much better movie in one go, not cut into two parts!
I collect DVDs, we have over 3,000 titles in the house now! I buy most from Car Boot Sales,Poundshops, markets, sales, and greatly reduced from the internet, but I only buy what I want to watch! I do a short report when I watch them, I got rid of almost 800 titles at Christmas 2010 (low score, duplicates, ones I'd never watch etc.) I continue to wade through them, and appear to be buying slightly less, but still watching like mad :)
