Shriek If You Know What I Did Last Friday The Thirteenth DVD Report
Shriek If You Know What I Did Last Friday The Thirteenth is a joke-a-minute spoof, this surprisingly genial, cleverly constructed parody is one of the best of the genre. The laugh quoter is very high while the gore factor and sexual references are practically nil.
Director John Blanchard has studied the Zucker-Abrahams body of work closely enough to know how to pack a scene with puns, both visual and literal, while moving along an actual story, in this case a perfect send-up of I Know What You Did Last Summer! Riotous pop references abound, keeping the viewers brain chewing on every element entitled to screen time just in case its a joke, and there are so many gags that the ones that don't work quickly make room for jokes that do, often within the same shot. The laughs are cheap and easy, but they are fast and furious, and Shriek has piled on so many satiric jokes making fun of the horror genre of the late '90s that no sequel is possible!
I collect DVDs, we have over 3,000 titles in the house now! I buy most from Car Boot Sales,Poundshops, markets, sales, and greatly reduced from the internet, but I only buy what I want to watch! I do a short report when I watch them, I got rid of almost 800 titles at Christmas 2010 (low score, duplicates, ones I'd never watch etc.) I continue to wade through them, and appear to be buying slightly less, but still watching like mad :)
