When a Stranger Calls is a remake of the 1976 movie of the same name. As punishment for her excessive cell phone use, high school student Jill Johnson (Camilla Belle) is given a babysitting job on the night of the schools biggest bonfire party. At first it looks as though she has an easy job, the house is beautiful, the kids are in bed, and the fridge is well stocked - but her plans for a lazy evening on the couch are shattered by an anonymous telephone caller whose intrusions become more and more intimidating!
First some plot gripes; Jill wasn't told the names of the children she is babysitting, she wasn't introduced to them either, the parents didn't know Jill before she arrived that night, the time to disable the assailant was then he put his hand through the door, a couple of hits with a heavy object and his hand would have been broken! Furthermore the wind was gale force, would you have a bonfire party on as night like that?
Other than the plot sillyness you can drive a truck full of chainsaws through, When a Stranger Calls isn't a bad movie, there is genuine tension, but it is just a bit too silly. Not bad if your bored I suppose!
