Children of Men is set in Britain in 2027, no children have been born for over 18 years. The police are armed to the teeth, with Alsatians snarling at the leash, they put the days catch of illegal immigrants into holding cells, which are just roadside cages. The streets are derelict and filthy, speakers and billboards advise that sheltering illegal immigrants is a crime, and supporting terrorism is the last word in ingratitude.
Bombs and kidnappings (Islamist, Leftist, Criminal, etc.) have lost their power to shock, while recanters, repenters, fasters, flagellants and every other brand of mediaeval throwback each peddle their one true path to salvation, with crusties, spiky tops, new-agers and hippies bringing to the mix a strangly plausible touch. Everyone has a place here, except for kids, there aren't any - pollution made us infertile two decades ago.
Theo (Clive Owen) is looking after Kee (Claire-Hope Ashitey) who is the only pregnant woman on earth, Julianne Moore, Michael Caine and Chiwetel Ejiofor all have small parts in Children of Men, it has to be seen to be appreciated, this is probably the best movie I have seen this year so far! Awesome, hard hitting, moving, edge of the seat adventure!
I collect DVDs, we have over 3,000 titles in the house now! I buy most from Car Boot Sales,Poundshops, markets, sales, and greatly reduced from the internet, but I only buy what I want to watch! I do a short report when I watch them, I got rid of almost 800 titles at Christmas 2010 (low score, duplicates, ones I'd never watch etc.) I continue to wade through them, and appear to be buying slightly less, but still watching like mad :)
