In Escape to Victory, its World War 2 Germany, allied soldiers in a prison camp pass their time playing football, coached by Captain John Colby (Michael Caine), Major Karl von Steine (Max Von Sydow) proposes a match against the Guards to raise morale. But what starts off as a harmless match, is turned into a propaganda opportunity as the Nazis propose a match against their countries national team, in Paris.
With the help of the French Resistance, the allies are secretly planning to use the excitement to escape, but instead of leaving at half time they decide We can beat these Nazis, lets stay. You have to remember 5 of the team are from Eastern Europe, and as their countries weren't recognised by the Nazis, come from a labour camp which has already brought them close to death, and the rest of the team wouldn't risk the wrath of the Nazis for winning the game either!
Escape to Victory is a silly movie, but enjoyable, but I like WWII Great Escape clones! It has a lot of 1970s footballers in it too, and some can even act! Add Sylvester Stallone to the action as the token American and its a top movie!
I collect DVDs, we have over 3,000 titles in the house now! I buy most from Car Boot Sales,Poundshops, markets, sales, and greatly reduced from the internet, but I only buy what I want to watch! I do a short report when I watch them, I got rid of almost 800 titles at Christmas 2010 (low score, duplicates, ones I'd never watch etc.) I continue to wade through them, and appear to be buying slightly less, but still watching like mad :)
