Hard Candy is billed as a claustrophobic and tightly wound psychological thriller, constantly pulling the rug out from under the viewers feet due to the tense, explosive performances of its two main characters. However I beg to differ!
The tale opens with a coffee shop rendezvous between 14-year-old Haley Stark (Ellen Page) and 32-year-old fashion photographer Jeff Kohlver (Patrick Wilson), who have met in an internat chat room. Despite his questionable enthusiasm at meeting a girl half his age, Jeff comes off as slightly awkward and shy. To cut a long story short, she goes back to his house with him, drugs him, ties him up, under the idea he is a paedophile.
Although its surprising what this fictional 14-year-old will do, its all predictable stuff, no twists even, I ended up fast-forwarding through scenes, there is no incidental music, and only 2 people in it for most of the movie!
I collect DVDs, we have over 3,000 titles in the house now! I buy most from Car Boot Sales,Poundshops, markets, sales, and greatly reduced from the internet, but I only buy what I want to watch! I do a short report when I watch them, I got rid of almost 800 titles at Christmas 2010 (low score, duplicates, ones I'd never watch etc.) I continue to wade through them, and appear to be buying slightly less, but still watching like mad :)
