In the Quick & The Dead, Ellen (Sharon Stone), a mysterious gunslinger arrives in the frontier hamlet of Redemption for a contest of quick-draw artists against each other. It is run by the corrupt mayor, John Herod (Gene Hackman), who has taken over the town and charges a 50% tax to local businesses.
The prize for Herods deadly game has attracted numerous colorful gunfighters from around the territory, but as each battle thins the ranks of players, the pasts of several participants are revealed. Ellen is seeking revenge on Herod for a heinous past injustice, the fast-talking braggart known as The Kid (Leonardo DiCaprio) is Herods son, and the pacifist Reverend Cort (Russell Crowe), refuses to participate in the bloodshed, is a former colleague of Herods. But who will survive?
The Quick and The Dead is an excellent western, all the best elements of all the best movies! I recommend it to all!
I collect DVDs, we have over 3,000 titles in the house now! I buy most from Car Boot Sales,Poundshops, markets, sales, and greatly reduced from the internet, but I only buy what I want to watch! I do a short report when I watch them, I got rid of almost 800 titles at Christmas 2010 (low score, duplicates, ones I'd never watch etc.) I continue to wade through them, and appear to be buying slightly less, but still watching like mad :)
