The Assassination Of Richard Nixon is a psychological drama based on a true story. It is 1974, Sam Bicke (Sean Penn) is a salesman whos life is beginning to unravel, his job going nowhere, his wife Marie (Naomi Watts) has left him, and his boss (Jack Thompson) is pushing self-help books on him that make a mockery of his scruples.
One of his few friends is Bonny Simmons (Don Cheadle), a mechanic. They have the idea of a motorised tyre shop, Bicke applies for a small-business loan, he is certain it will come through for them, but dosen't. Bicke becomes increasingly obsessed with Richard Nixon, and finally takes it upon himself to stop the president once and for all.
Sean Penn is fantastic, he is very much like Robert De Nero in Taxi Driver! I did find the movie somewhat depressing though, if it wasn't for the action at the end, I may of considered suicide during the end credits - but that does mean Penns character got under my skin! A good movie!
I collect DVDs, we have over 3,000 titles in the house now! I buy most from Car Boot Sales,Poundshops, markets, sales, and greatly reduced from the internet, but I only buy what I want to watch! I do a short report when I watch them, I got rid of almost 800 titles at Christmas 2010 (low score, duplicates, ones I'd never watch etc.) I continue to wade through them, and appear to be buying slightly less, but still watching like mad :)
