In The Talented Mr Ripley, to be young and carefree amid the waters and landscape of Italy in the late 1950s is the life Tom Ripley (Matt Damon) craves - and Dickie Greenleaf (Jude Law) leads. So when Dickies father, a wealthy ship-builder, asks Tom to bring his son back to America, all Toms dreams have come true! Dickie and his beautiful expatriate girlfriend, Marge Sherwood (Gwyneth Paltrow), become Toms best friends, they are inseparable.
Tom likes everything Dickie likes, does everything Dickie does, then one day Dickie announces he is bored with Tom, but never suspects the dangerous extremes to which Tom will go to. After all, its better to be a fake somebody than a real nobody.
The Talented Mr Ripley is a great movie, certainly deserving of all the exposure it got at the time! And still well worth watching!
I collect DVDs, we have over 3,000 titles in the house now! I buy most from Car Boot Sales,Poundshops, markets, sales, and greatly reduced from the internet, but I only buy what I want to watch! I do a short report when I watch them, I got rid of almost 800 titles at Christmas 2010 (low score, duplicates, ones I'd never watch etc.) I continue to wade through them, and appear to be buying slightly less, but still watching like mad :)
